How do I add Cite Them Right to Microsoft Word on a personal device?

Answer

To install the Cite Them Right (CTR) referencing style file on your personal laptop or computer, you must be using the desktop/app version of Microsoft Word. If you only have the online version, remember you are entitled to install the full version of Office 365 if you are current student or member of staff at UHI. The link is available in the Links&Files area at the foot of this page.

To install the CTR referencing style file in the Word app, please take the following steps:

  1. Download the file 'CTRHarvard.xsl' from the Links&Files area of this page.
  2. In Windows File Explorer, copy and paste the following file path: %appdata%\Microsoft\Bibliography\Style
  3. Copy the file from step 1 into the style folder.
  4. Restart Microsoft Word and the Cite Them Right style will now be availabile in the referencing options. It is labelled Harvard - UHI CTR.
