What version of Cite Them Right does UHI use?
Answer
The current version of Harvard Cite Them Right is the 13th edition. For the 25/26 academic year, students may use either the 12th or 13th edition in assignments. The key points are:
- The publishers have updated the Cite Them Right support site to the 13th edition. UHI don't control this change - the website has been updated for all institutions that use Cite Them Right.
- If you previously purchased the 12th edition of the book, you may still use if for the 25/26 academic year and you will not lose marks, as long as your referencing is clear and consistent.
- Most changes in the 13th edition are small tweaks and the addition of new online sources.
- If you use the Cite Them Right online, you'll automatically see the 13th edition. From 2026/27 onwards, everyone will be expected to use the 13th edition.
- A small number of UHI courses do not use Harvard Cite Them Right, including Theology, Philosophy, Psychology and History. Further details can be found in the Referencing Libguide.
- The library team are working with other third-party vendors to ensure that systems including Library Search and Refworks are updated asap. It is anticipated that CTR 13th edition will be available in Refworks late September 2025.
- Contact your module tutor or the library if you are unsure.
